Disney and Motherhood

The love between a mother and daughter is forever 💕 I have a lot of respect for, and I’m very drawn to people who have good mother-daughter relationships, either with their moms/moms-in-law, or with their daughters.

My girls earned their screen time this week so we watched Disney Pixar’s Brave together. I watched this movie 6 years ago, right after my oldest was born and I was recovering in bed. Seeing how Merida and Queen Elinor’s relationship played out, I didn’t want to ever say or do unkind things to jeopardize my mother-daughter relationships, but I’m only human… Fast forward 6 years, I’m trying my best every day, but man do I mess up ALL the times, especially because I’m often tired which makes me impatient.

I said sorry a lot this weekend, more than I have in a long time. I’m so humbled by God’s grace toward me right now, and the grace my husband, children, mother-in-law (I truly have the best one ever!) and friends who mean a lot to me have shown me. When I rocked my baby boy to sleep tonight I sang one of my favorite hymns quietly to him, and I teared up singing the words –
I hear the Savior say
Thy strength indeed is small
Child of weakness watch and pray
Find in me thy all in all
Jesus paid it all
All to Him I owe
Sin had a left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow

To my beautiful daughters who think I’m perfect right now – You’ll learn I’m not, and I hope to confidently show you my flaws and strengths, and to show you that it’s ok. I also want you to know how beautiful, brave, capable, loved and accepted you are. I know, because I’m your mother 💕
